Netflix adds HDR streaming support for LG V30 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Netflix has added support for HDR streaming on the LG V30 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8. This sees the Android devices join the already supported Sony Xperia XZ Premium and Sony Xperia XZ1.

The support for HDR on the Galaxy Note 8 does raise the question as to why the Galaxy S8 and S8+ aren’t included in the supported list, but that could be due to a controlled rollout of support that will see more devices added later. Samsung started supporting HDR content last year since the Note 7 so all devices since then have HDR supported displays.

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. “Dynamic range” is the range from the brightest brights to the darkest darks of an image and helps to provide a better clearer image when viewing content. You’ll need a top tier Netflix subscription to be able to take advantage of HDR content though.

It’s great to see Netflix enabling HDR for the latest Android smartphones and hopefully more devices are added to the list.
