How to get the Pixel 2’s Portrait for non-Google smartphones

1 224

You’ll remember recently that the Pixel 2’s brilliant and exclusive Portrait mode was made available to earlier Google devices, such as the Nexus 6P and original Pixel thanks to an APK port of the official Google Camera app called Camera NX.

XDA Senior Member Arnova8G2 took the Camera NX app and was able to get it to work on non-Google devices running Android Oreo 8.0. Users are reporting the port brings Portrait mode to the likes of the Xiaomi Mi 5/5s on LineageOS 15, OnePlus 3 & 3T on OxygenOS 5, Moto G5s Plus, and even the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 running the leaked Oreo beta ROM.

It seems that any 64-bit device running Android Oreo 8.0 is capable of running the Camera NX port to bring the Pixel 2’s Portrait mode to their device. It doesn’t require root but does only currently work on the rear camera of the device.

You can grab the link to download the modded APK to work with non-Google devices below and can follow developments over at the XDA thread.
